First seen Jan 11, 2026 · Last updated Jun 09, 2026 · Updated 22 times

Summary

This study tests whether a combination of anesthesia techniques, called NeuroFirst, can lower the risk of silent brain damage and thinking problems after heart surgery. About 912 adults aged 60 and older having heart surgery will be randomly assigned to receive either NeuroFirst or standard care. Participants will have brain scans and thinking tests before surgery and up to one year after to see if the new approach helps protect the brain.
