NCT ID NCT02945332
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This pilot study tested whether giving financial rewards for walking and healthy food could help low-income adults with obesity or diabetes. Eight participants were split into two groups: one received incentives, the other did not. The goal was to see if this approach could reduce disease burden and be cost-effective.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
financial incentive and supervised walking
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a low-cost way to help low-income communities reduce obesity and diabetes through exercise and better food choices.
What could go wrong
This is a very small pilot study with only 8 participants, so results may not apply to larger populations. The study is complete, but no major outcomes were reported.
