Brain zapping gets a precision upgrade for depression relief

NCT ID NCT03851380

First seen Apr 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 8 times

Summary

This study aims to improve how doctors target brain stimulation for depression. Currently, many patients don't respond because the stimulation coil is placed using scalp landmarks, which can miss the correct brain area. The researchers will compare this standard method with MRI-guided targeting in 54 depressed veterans. For those with COVID-related stress not receiving rTMS, the study offers a home-based brain stimulation and therapy program to improve quality of life.
