NCT ID NCT07362511

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether a therapy called Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) can help reduce depressive symptoms when delivered by mental health assistants in primary care. Twelve adults with depression will wait 2-4 weeks, then receive 5 sessions of ImRs over 10 weeks, where they work with a therapist to change negative memories into more positive ones. Researchers will measure changes in depression severity, self-esteem, and core beliefs up to six months after treatment.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

Imagery Rescripting (ImRs) - a therapy where patients change negative memories into more positive ones with a therapist's help

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a brief, accessible therapy for depression within primary care, reducing the need for specialist referrals.

What could go wrong

This is a very small early study with only 12 participants, no control group, and no blinding, so results may not apply broadly. The therapy may not work for everyone or effects may not last.
