New shorter radiation course aims to ease sarcoma treatment for seniors
NCT ID NCT06022159
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a shorter, higher-dose radiation therapy given over one week before surgery for soft tissue sarcoma in patients aged 70+ or those 65+ who are considered fragile. The goal is to see if this approach reduces major wound complications after surgery. About 48 participants will receive the radiation followed by surgery and be monitored for up to 3 years.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Hypofractionated radiation therapy (IMRT)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this shorter radiation course could become a standard option for older or fragile sarcoma patients, reducing treatment burden and wound healing problems.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 48 participants and no comparison group. The shorter radiation schedule may still cause wound complications or fail to control the cancer as well as standard treatment.
