Could a gel make root canal surgery less painful?

NCT ID NCT07501585

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 2 times

Summary

This study tests whether applying a special gel (cross-linked hyaluronic acid) during root-end surgery helps the gums heal faster and reduces pain afterward. About 46 adults with a tooth infection that didn't heal after standard root canal treatment will take part. Half will get the gel during surgery, and half will have surgery alone, with follow-up for one year.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
cross-linked hyaluronic acid
What this could lead to
If it works, this could mean faster healing and less pain after root-end surgery for people with persistent tooth infections.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage trial with only 46 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The benefit over standard surgery alone may be small or absent.
