First seen Feb 20, 2026 · Last updated May 05, 2026 · Updated 7 times
Summary
This study looked at how a day of inactivity (less than 5,000 steps) changes the way muscles and energy systems respond to exercise. Eleven healthy adults completed either a low-activity or normal-activity day, then biked for an hour. Researchers took blood and muscle samples to measure fat and carbohydrate use and gene activity. The goal is to help improve exercise guidelines for better heart and metabolic health.
