Could muscle proteins reveal hidden muscle loss in diabetes and obesity?
NCT ID NCT07703683
First seen Jul 14, 2026 · Last updated Jul 15, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study investigates whether proteins released by muscles, called myokines, can serve as early warning signs or even causes of muscle loss (sarcopenia) in people with metabolic or endocrine conditions like diabetes, obesity, and Cushing syndrome. Researchers will measure myokine levels in blood and muscle tissue from 100 participants and compare them to muscle health. The goal is to better understand why muscle loss occurs in these diseases and find new ways to detect or prevent it.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this research could identify early biomarkers for muscle loss in metabolic diseases, paving the way for targeted treatments or prevention strategies.
- What could go wrong
- This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it will not directly test any therapy. The findings may not lead to immediate clinical applications.
