Can specialized exercises improve balance in children with obesity?

NCT ID NCT07744022

First seen Aug 04, 2026 · Last updated Aug 05, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This trial tests whether a specialized exercise program called Progressive Neuromuscular Stabilization (PNS) can improve balance and body composition in children with obesity, compared to standard aerobic exercise. Children aged 12-18 with obesity will be randomly assigned to one of three groups: PNS exercises, aerobic exercises, or a control group receiving only advice. Over 12 weeks, the exercise groups will have supervised sessions twice weekly plus home exercises via a mobile app. The study measures changes in balance, body fat, and other health indicators to see which approach is more effective.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Progressive Neuromuscular Stabilization (PNS) exercises and aerobic exercises
What this could lead to
If effective, this could point toward a better exercise approach to improve balance and body composition in children with obesity, potentially enhancing their physical activity and quality of life.
What could go wrong
This is a relatively small trial, and results may not apply to all children with obesity. The exercises require regular participation, and some children may not adhere to the program, affecting outcomes.
