First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests a therapy called HOPE for people who have both opioid use disorder and PTSD. Participants must already be on medication for opioid use disorder (like Suboxone or methadone). Over 10-12 weeks, they will attend therapy sessions and complete surveys to see if their opioid use and PTSD symptoms improve.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
HOPE therapy (behavioral therapy)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could provide an effective integrated therapy for people struggling with both opioid addiction and PTSD, potentially improving recovery outcomes.
What could go wrong
This is a small early-stage study with only 76 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The therapy is intensive (10-12 weeks) and may not work for all individuals.
