Walking and education may protect kidneys in metabolic syndrome patients

NCT ID NCT06527768

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This pilot study tests a 3-month program that combines online education, music-paced brisk walking, group discussions, and phone follow-ups for 40 adults with both metabolic syndrome and chronic kidney disease. The goal is to see if the program can reduce waist circumference and preserve kidney function compared to usual care. Researchers will also check if the program is practical and acceptable to participants.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

theory-based health behaviour change intervention (online education, music-paced brisk walking, group discussion, and telephone follow-up)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a practical, low-cost program to help people with metabolic syndrome and chronic kidney disease manage their waist size and kidney function better.

What could go wrong

This is a very small pilot study with only 40 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The intervention is behavioral and relies on self-report, which can be unreliable.
