Argon plasma zaps stomach bugs in new trial

NCT ID NCT06529159

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests a new way to treat H. pylori, a bacteria that can cause stomach ulcers and cancer. During an endoscopy, doctors fill the stomach with a saltwater solution that is activated by argon plasma to kill the bacteria. The trial will compare two methods of making this solution and check if it reduces H. pylori levels. Twenty adults with untreated H. pylori will take part, and all will still receive standard antibiotics after the procedure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

argon plasma activated saline solution

What this could lead to

If successful, this could offer a new, non-antibiotic way to reduce H. pylori bacteria during an endoscopy, potentially improving treatment outcomes.

What could go wrong

This is a very early pilot study with only 20 people. It is testing a new procedure, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. Participants still need standard antibiotics afterward.
