Can stomach electricity reveal gut disease? new study investigates
NCT ID NCT06197334
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study uses a homemade device with electrodes placed on the belly to record electrical signals from the stomach and intestines. Researchers will compare these signals in healthy volunteers, people with Crohn's disease (with or without fibrosis), and people with functional gastrointestinal disorders. The goal is to see if the electrical patterns differ between these groups, which could eventually help diagnose or monitor gut conditions without invasive tests.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a non-invasive way to help diagnose or monitor gut conditions like Crohn's disease.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage observational study, not a treatment trial. It may not find clear differences, and any future diagnostic use would require much more testing.
