Gene test could predict who benefits from semaglutide
NCT ID NCT06003153
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study looks at how a person's genetic makeup influences their response to oral semaglutide (Rybelsus), a drug used for type 2 diabetes. Researchers will give 125 adults with prediabetes a 14-day course of the drug and measure blood sugar, insulin, and other factors after a standardized breakfast. The goal is to understand why some people respond differently to the medication, which could lead to more personalized treatment for diabetes.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
oral semaglutide (Rybelsus)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could help doctors predict who will benefit most from semaglutide based on their genes, leading to more personalized diabetes prevention.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase study focused on understanding mechanisms, not proving treatment effectiveness. Results may not apply to everyone, and the 14-day treatment period is too short to assess long-term outcomes.
