First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tested whether weekly home delivery of diabetes-friendly food boxes, along with easy-to-understand diabetes education materials, could improve health in 101 low-income adults with type 2 diabetes who also faced food insecurity. Participants received the food boxes and education for the study period. Researchers measured changes in blood sugar (HbA1c) and diet quality to see if the approach helped.

Active substance

diabetes-appropriate food boxes and diabetes self-management education materials

What this could lead to

If successful, this approach could offer a practical way to help people with diabetes who also struggle with food insecurity better manage their blood sugar and diet.

What could go wrong

This was a small, single-arm study with no comparison group, so results may not be generalizable. The intervention is behavioral and may not work for everyone.
