Less fluid during robotic prostate surgery? new study seeks the sweet spot

NCT ID NCT07626151

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study looks at how much fluid patients should receive during robotic prostate surgery. It compares a standard approach with a more restricted one, using a non-invasive heart monitor to guide decisions. The goal is to see which method keeps tissues better perfused, measured by blood lactate and kidney function. 90 men undergoing robotic prostatectomy will take part.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this study could help establish better fluid management guidelines for robotic prostate surgery, potentially reducing complications like fluid overload or kidney injury.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage study (90 participants) focused on short-term outcomes like lactate levels, not long-term survival or cure. Results may not apply to all patients or surgeries.
