New test could help kids with cancer preserve fertility safely
NCT ID NCT07141862
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026
Summary
This study looks at two lab tests (RT-qPCR and ddPCR) to find leftover cancer cells in frozen ovarian or testicular tissue from children treated for neuroblastoma or Ewing sarcoma. The goal is to make it safer for these children to later use their stored tissue to have children of their own. Researchers will test tissue samples with added cancer cells and also real tissue from patients to see which method works best.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a reliable way to check stored tissue for cancer cells, making it safer for children to later use that tissue to have their own biological children.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage diagnostic study, not a treatment trial. The methods may not be sensitive enough to detect all cancer cells, and the results may not apply to all patients or cancer types.
