Stool test could shorten h. pylori treatment to just 7 days
NCT ID NCT07405697
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a 7-day course of antibiotics chosen by a stool test works as well as a 14-day course for people with stubborn H. pylori infections. About 290 adults who have failed previous treatment will get a stool test to find which drugs their infection resists, then be randomly assigned to 7 or 14 days of tailored therapy. The goal is to see if the shorter treatment is just as effective, safer, and cheaper.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- A combination of antibiotics and acid-reducing drugs chosen based on a stool test
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could make H. pylori rescue treatment shorter, cheaper, and more effective by using a simple stool test to guide drug choice.
- What could go wrong
- This is a Phase 4 trial, but it's not yet recruiting. The shorter 7-day course might not work as well as 14 days, and the stool test may not be widely available.
