PET scans may predict sperm retrieval success in infertile men
NCT ID NCT02043444
First seen Jan 09, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study looked at 160 men with azoospermia (no sperm in their semen) to see if a special PET scan (FDG PET-CT) could tell which men would have sperm found during a testicular biopsy. The goal was to find a non-invasive way to predict successful sperm extraction, helping couples avoid unnecessary surgeries. The study compared scan results between men who had sperm retrieved and those who did not.
