Dialysis patients' symptoms often ignored – new trial aims to change that
NCT ID NCT06257134
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether having dialysis patients report their symptoms every month – and automatically alerting their care team when symptoms are severe – can improve their quality of life. About 2,293 adults with end-stage kidney disease on dialysis will take part across French centers. Half will get usual care, and half will have their symptom scores sent to staff so they can act quickly. The goal is to see if this simple monitoring helps patients feel better physically and mentally over 18 months.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
systematic symptom monitoring with feedback to healthcare teams
What this could lead to
If it works, this could give dialysis patients a better quality of life by helping doctors catch and treat symptoms sooner.
What could go wrong
This is a large trial, but it's testing a monitoring process, not a new drug. The benefit may be small or hard to measure, and results may not apply to all dialysis centers.
