Slow-Release caffeine may boost morning mood without the jitters

NCT ID NCT06441695

First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 26, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether a slow-release caffeine pill (zümXR) could improve mood, alertness, and reduce side effects like jitters compared to regular caffeine after a night of poor sleep. Thirty-six healthy adults who usually drink moderate amounts of caffeine took part. They slept less than 5 hours, then took either the slow-release or regular caffeine and reported how they felt over several hours.

extended-release caffeine

What this could lead to

If it works, this could offer a way to stay alert after a bad night's sleep with less jitteriness or anxiety than regular caffeine.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early study with only 36 people, so results may not apply to everyone. The effects are short-term and not a substitute for proper sleep.
