First seen Jan 12, 2026 · Last updated Apr 24, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study looks at 150 women aged 14–30 with functional hypothalamic amenorrhea (a condition where periods stop due to stress, low weight, or over-exercise). It compares three estrogen treatments—natural estrogen patch, natural estrogen pill, or a synthetic birth control patch—to see which best improves bone density and strength over one year. Participants also take calcium and vitamin D and attend four study visits.
