Could a Low-Dose anesthetic boost depression treatment in teens?

NCT ID NCT07247968

First seen Jan 05, 2026 · Last updated May 14, 2026 · Updated 19 times

Summary

This study tests whether adding a low dose of esketamine (a fast-acting anesthetic) to standard electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) can better treat severe depression in teenagers aged 13 to 17. About 220 teens will be randomly assigned to receive either esketamine or a placebo during ECT sessions. Researchers will track mood improvements, memory side effects, and safety to see if the combination works better than ECT alone.
