New light on colonoscopy: can enhanced imaging spot more polyps?
NCT ID NCT06979232
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This study tested whether a special light technology (enhanced white light endoscopy) helps doctors find more precancerous growths in the colon compared to standard colonoscopy. Over 800 adults aged 45 to 85 undergoing colonoscopy took part. The goal was to see if the enhanced light improves detection of adenomas, which can turn into cancer.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
Enhanced white light endoscopy (device)
What this could lead to
If successful, this imaging technique could help doctors find more precancerous polyps during routine colonoscopies, potentially preventing colorectal cancer.
What could go wrong
This is a completed device comparison study, so results are available. However, the benefit may be small or not apply to all patient groups or endoscopists.
