Can a dental floss loop make polyp removal faster?
NCT ID NCT04756453
First seen Aug 11, 2026 · Last updated Aug 12, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This trial tests whether a simple clip-and-floss traction device can speed up the removal of large colon polyps using a technique called endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD). About 280 people scheduled for ESD will be randomly assigned to receive either the traction device or standard ESD. The main goal is to see if the traction device increases the speed of tissue removal, which could make the procedure more efficient.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- clip-traction device (an endoscopic clip with a loop of dental floss attached to the lesion and anchored to the bowel wall)
- What this could lead to
- If effective, this simple traction technique could make colon polyp removal faster and potentially safer, improving outcomes for patients.
- What could go wrong
- The trial is early and the benefit may be modest. The device could also add complexity or risk of tissue damage during the procedure.
