First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study will examine tissue samples from 30 women having surgery for bowel endometriosis to see if genetic changes in the affected bowel might increase the risk of colorectal cancer. The goal is to better understand any hidden connection and improve how doctors assess cancer risk in these patients. No treatments are being tested.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this research could help identify women with endometriosis who are at higher risk for colorectal cancer, leading to better screening and earlier prevention.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage observational study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to all patients. It looks at genetic changes but does not test any treatment.
