First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 01, 2026 · Updated 25 times

Summary

This study tests whether empagliflozin, a drug originally for diabetes, can improve heart function in 80 adults over 60 with high blood pressure and obesity who are at risk for heart failure. Participants take either the drug or a placebo daily for 9 months, and heart function is measured by ultrasound. The goal is to see if the drug helps the heart's left atrium work better, potentially preventing future heart failure.
