Smart stethoscope listens for dialysis danger signs
NCT ID NCT07436559
First seen Mar 27, 2026 · Last updated May 15, 2026 · Updated 5 times
Summary
This study tested whether an electronic stethoscope can help doctors detect narrowing (stenosis) of the arteriovenous fistula—the blood vessel access used for dialysis—in patients with end-stage kidney disease. Thirty adults on long-term dialysis had their fistula sounds recorded over three months. The goal was to see if sound patterns could predict blockages before they cause problems, potentially allowing earlier treatment.
