First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether low-frequency electroacupuncture can reduce pain and numbness in people with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). 92 adults with DPN will receive either real or sham electroacupuncture for 6 weeks. Researchers will measure nerve function, pain levels, and quality of life to see if this safe, non-drug approach works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- low-frequency electroacupuncture
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could offer a safe, drug-free option to relieve nerve pain and improve quality of life for people with diabetic neuropathy.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 92 participants. The sham control may also produce some benefit, and results may not apply to everyone with DPN.
