Could adding cupping to acupuncture double shoulder pain relief?
NCT ID NCT07545785
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Aug 11, 2026 · Updated 2 times
Summary
This study tests whether combining electroacupuncture with vacuum cupping therapy works better than electroacupuncture alone for shoulder tendinitis. Fifty-four adults with shoulder pain and stiffness will receive either electroacupuncture alone or electroacupuncture plus cupping over two weeks. Researchers will measure pain, disability, and range of motion to see if the combo treatment offers extra relief.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- electroacupuncture and vacuum cupping therapy
- What this could lead to
- If it works, this could point toward a more effective non-drug treatment for shoulder tendinitis pain and stiffness.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-stage trial with only 54 participants and a short two-week follow-up. The results may not apply to everyone, and the added benefit of cupping is uncertain.
