Simple elastic band workouts may boost strength in heart failure patients

NCT ID NCT06161402

First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether a 14-week elastic band exercise program can improve muscle mass, strength, and physical function in heart failure patients aged 50 and older who also have sarcopenia (age-related muscle loss). Researchers will measure changes in muscle, symptoms, and quality of life. The goal is to see if this simple, home-friendly exercise approach can help manage a common complication of heart failure.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

elastic band-based progressive resistance training (EB-PRT)

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost exercise program to help heart failure patients regain muscle strength and improve daily function.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study with only 62 participants, so results may not apply to all heart failure patients. The exercise program requires consistent participation, and benefits may be modest.
