First seen Nov 01, 2025 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 24 times
Summary
This study tested whether a chewing gum containing dietary nitrate (like in leafy greens and beets) could improve gum health and heart health in adults with mild gum disease. Thirty participants were randomly assigned to use either the nitrate gum or a placebo gum for three weeks. Researchers measured gum inflammation, blood vessel flexibility, and nitric oxide levels to see if the gum had any effect.
