First seen Mar 14, 2026 · Last updated May 16, 2026 · Updated 11 times

Summary

This study observes 65 adults with major depression or bipolar depression who are receiving electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) as part of their routine care. Researchers track how two different anesthetics—ketamine plus propofol versus propofol alone—affect depression severity, suicidal thoughts, and dissociative symptoms over the course of ECT. The goal is to see if ketamine offers faster mood improvement without causing troubling side effects.
