First seen Nov 17, 2025 · Last updated Apr 29, 2026 · Updated 18 times

Summary

This study tests whether performing skull surgery early—before dangerous brain swelling occurs—can improve outcomes for people who have had a severe stroke. About 380 adults aged 18 to 75 with large strokes and high risk of swelling will be randomly assigned to receive either early surgery plus standard care or standard care alone. The goal is to see if proactive surgery helps more people survive with less disability.
