NCT ID NCT06598410
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tested whether letting children play digital games or watch cartoons before and during stitches can lower their pain, fear, and anxiety. 90 children aged 5-10 in the ER were split into three groups: one played games, one watched cartoons, and one received standard care. Researchers measured pain, fear, and anxiety using child-friendly scales. The goal is to find a simple, non-drug way to make a scary procedure more comfortable for kids.

What this could lead to
If it works, this could give hospitals a simple, drug-free way to help children feel less pain and fear during minor procedures like getting stitches.
What could go wrong
This is a small, completed study (90 children) and results may not apply to all kids or other procedures. The effect may be modest and depend on the child's preferences.
