New radiation treatment shows promise for skin cancer in immunocompromised patients
NCT ID NCT06615635
First seen Sep 30, 2025 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 25 times
Summary
This study tests a new type of radiation therapy called DaRT for people with a common skin cancer (squamous cell carcinoma) who have weakened immune systems. The treatment involves placing tiny radioactive seeds directly into the tumor to kill cancer cells from the inside. Researchers will track how well the tumors shrink and how long patients live, with up to 28 participants.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
DaRT seeds (radioactive sources that release alpha radiation directly into the tumor)
What this could lead to
If it works, this could offer a new treatment option for skin cancer in people with weakened immune systems, who often have limited choices.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage study with only 28 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The treatment involves radiation, which can cause side effects like skin irritation or damage to nearby tissue.
Conditions
The condition(s) this trial relates to.
As listed by the trial registrant
The condition terms exactly as the trial's registrant entered them.
