Could DAOIB slow memory loss? new trial begins
NCT ID NCT05582161
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This phase 2 trial is testing a drug called DAOIB in 123 people with mild Alzheimer's disease or mild cognitive impairment. Participants take DAOIB for 24 weeks, with dose adjustments every 8 weeks. Researchers will measure changes in thinking and memory, and look at blood markers related to brain stress. The goal is to see if these markers can predict how well the drug works.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
DAOIB (a drug that may affect brain chemistry)
What this could lead to
If successful, this could point toward a new treatment option to slow cognitive decline in early Alzheimer's or mild cognitive impairment.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-phase trial with no placebo group, so results may not prove effectiveness. The drug's long-term safety and benefits are still unknown.
