Can a single CT scan replace two tests for bladder cancer?

NCT ID NCT00567684

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study compares two imaging techniques—CT urography (CTU) and intravenous urography (IVU)—in 133 bladder cancer patients to see if CTU alone can effectively monitor the disease. Researchers want to determine if CTU provides clear enough images of the urinary tract to replace the need for both scans. The goal is to simplify future monitoring for patients at risk of urothelial tumors.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could show that CTU scans alone are reliable for monitoring bladder cancer, potentially replacing the need for IVU scans.

What could go wrong

This is a small pilot study (133 participants) comparing two imaging methods, not testing a new treatment. Results may not change current practice without larger trials.
