Simple tools aim to curb antibiotic overuse in kyrgyzstan
NCT ID NCT07261969
First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study in Kyrgyzstan is testing whether using a rapid C-reactive protein (CRP) blood test and giving patients an information leaflet can help doctors prescribe fewer antibiotics for respiratory infections like coughs and sore throats. About 1050 adults will be randomly assigned to different groups to see which approach works best and is safe. The goal is to fight antibiotic resistance by only using antibiotics when they are truly needed.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
C-reactive protein point-of-care test (CRP-POCT) and patient information leaflets
What this could lead to
If successful, this could show that simple tools like a quick blood test and an information leaflet help doctors avoid unnecessary antibiotics for common respiratory infections.
What could go wrong
This is an early-stage study in one country, so results may not apply elsewhere. It focuses on changing prescribing habits, not on a new drug, so the impact is limited to that setting.
