First seen Jan 04, 2026 · Last updated Jun 23, 2026 · Updated 21 times
Summary
This study compared three different rehabilitation programs after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. Participants were randomly assigned to either 6 weeks of strict immobilization, 3 weeks of immobilization followed by 3 weeks of passive motion, or immediate passive motion for 6 weeks, all followed by active rehab. The goal was to see which program led to the best shoulder function and tendon healing at one year. The study was terminated early, so results are limited.

What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could identify the best rehabilitation approach after rotator cuff repair, improving recovery and tendon healing.
What could go wrong
The study was terminated early, so results may be incomplete. It only included people with small tears, so findings may not apply to all patients.
