Can a common supplement tame Drug-Resistant epilepsy?

NCT ID NCT07537283

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tested whether taking coenzyme Q10, a natural supplement, can help reduce seizures in adults with drug-resistant epilepsy. Thirty-nine participants took either coenzyme Q10 or a placebo daily for 12 weeks alongside their usual seizure medications. Researchers tracked seizure frequency and cognitive function to see if the supplement made a difference.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

coenzyme Q10

What this could lead to

If it works, this could point toward a safe, natural supplement to help control seizures in people whose epilepsy doesn't respond to standard drugs.

What could go wrong

This is a small, completed trial with only 39 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. Coenzyme Q10 is generally safe, but it may not reduce seizures for all patients.
