Simple chest squeeze may improve oxygen flow in ARDS patients
NCT ID NCT06699017
First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026
Summary
This completed study tested a technique called continuous anterior chest compression (CACC) in 20 adults with moderate to severe acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS). The goal was to see if manually pressing on the chest could improve how air and blood move through the lungs, and whether it affects heart function. Researchers used imaging to measure lung ventilation and blood flow, and ultrasound to check heart performance.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
Active substance
manual continuous anterior chest compression
What this could lead to
If it works, this could point toward a simple, low-cost way to improve breathing and heart function in patients with severe lung injury.
What could go wrong
This is a very small, early study with only 20 participants, so results may not apply to all ARDS patients. The technique is manual and may be hard to standardize.
