New study: can a smart glucose monitor help diabetics with kidney problems?

NCT ID NCT07668219

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This study tests whether a real-time continuous glucose monitor (CGM) helps people with type 2 diabetes and chronic kidney disease keep their blood sugar in a healthy range. Thirty adults will either use the CGM or stick with standard fingerstick checks for three months. The goal is to see if the CGM leads to more time with safe blood sugar levels and fewer dangerous lows.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

real-time continuous glucose monitoring device

What this could lead to

If it works, this could show that continuous glucose monitoring helps people with diabetes and kidney disease keep their blood sugar in a safer range, reducing dangerous lows and highs.

What could go wrong

This is a small, early-stage trial with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The device might not be accurate enough or could be hard to use for some patients.
