Can a simple ultrasound spot liver cancer treatment success faster?
NCT ID NCT07145801
First seen Jun 24, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) can better detect if liver cancer (HCC) has been killed by radioembolization treatment. Standard CT or MRI scans often take months to show clear results, delaying further treatment. Researchers will enroll 30 patients and compare CEUS images to standard scans at 1-2 and 4-6 months after treatment.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
- Active substance
- Lumason (sulfur hexafluoride lipid microspheres, an ultrasound contrast agent)
- What this could lead to
- If successful, this could make it faster and more accurate to see if liver cancer treatment worked, helping doctors decide on retreatment sooner.
- What could go wrong
- This is a small, early-phase study with only 30 participants, so results may not apply to everyone. The ultrasound technique may not be better than current scans.
