New study aims to improve cervical cancer monitoring for HIV-Positive women

NCT ID NCT07202936

First seen Jun 27, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026

Summary

This observational study follows 168 women living with HIV in Zimbabwe who have been treated for cervical pre-cancer. Researchers want to learn how often the disease comes back and whether HPV or DNA tests can predict recurrence. Participants will be monitored every six months for two years with biopsies and cervical samples.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

What this could lead to

If successful, this could lead to better guidelines for monitoring cervical pre-cancer in women with HIV, reducing recurrence and cancer risk.

What could go wrong

This is an observational study, not a treatment trial, so it won't directly test a new therapy. Results may not apply to other countries or populations.
