Brain cell injection could tame Drug-Resistant epilepsy

NCT ID NCT07572812

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This early-stage trial tests a new cell therapy called UX-GIP001 for adults with drug-resistant temporal lobe epilepsy. The treatment involves injecting special brain cells into the seizure area to calm overactive nerves. Only 12 people will take part, and the main goal is to check safety and see if seizures decrease.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance

UX-GIP001 (human GABAergic interneuron progenitor cells)

What this could lead to

If successful, this could point toward a new treatment option for people with drug-resistant epilepsy, potentially reducing or stopping seizures.

What could go wrong

This is a very early Phase 1 trial with only 12 participants, so safety and effectiveness are not yet proven. The cell injection into the brain carries surgical risks, and participants may need lifelong immunosuppression.
