Simple neck scan could save hearts of arthritis patients
NCT ID NCT07611747
First seen Jun 03, 2026 · Last updated Jun 15, 2026 · Updated 3 times
Summary
This study tests whether using a carotid ultrasound (a neck scan) can better prevent heart attacks and strokes in people with inflammatory rheumatic diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, axial spondyloarthritis, and lupus. These patients have a higher heart risk that standard risk scores often miss. About 1,944 participants aged 50 and older will be randomly assigned to either get the ultrasound or standard care, and researchers will track major heart events over 4 years.
