Simple breathing training may supercharge cardiac recovery

NCT ID NCT06681740

First seen Jun 25, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time

Summary

This study tests whether adding a simple breathing exercise (inspiratory muscle training) to standard cardiac rehab helps people with narrowed heart arteries recover better. 72 adults who had a heart procedure (angioplasty) will be split into two groups: one does standard rehab, the other adds breathing training. Researchers will measure exercise capacity, muscle strength, mood, and quality of life after 8 weeks.

What this could mean

Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.

Active substance
Inspiratory muscle training (IMT) using a Power Breath device
What this could lead to
If it works, this could make cardiac rehab more effective, helping people breathe easier and improve their daily function after a heart procedure.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early-stage trial with only 72 participants. The added benefit of breathing training is uncertain, and results may not apply to everyone with heart disease.
