Summary
This study looks at whether two simple bedside tests—the Passive Leg Raising (PLR) test and the Pleth Variability Index (PVI)—can predict a temporary drop in blood pressure that sometimes happens during a lung-opening procedure called an Alveolar Recruitment Maneuver (ARM). ARM is used during general anesthesia to prevent lung collapse and improve oxygen levels, but it can cause hypotension in some patients. The study will enroll 70 adults having elective non-cardiac, non-thoracic surgery under general anesthesia. Before each ARM, the PLR test and PVI will be measured to see if they can identify who is at risk, potentially allowing doctors to take preventive steps and make the procedure safer.
