Can a camera help surgeons spot healthy brain tissue?
NCT ID NCT06651463
First seen Jun 26, 2026 · Last updated Jun 27, 2026 · Updated 1 time
Summary
This study tests whether a camera can record useful video of the brain during neurosurgery to help surgeons tell healthy tissue from diseased tissue. Researchers will record 50 adult patients undergoing brain surgery for tumors, epilepsy, or other conditions. The goal is to see if the camera can capture enough detail to detect color and fluorescence changes that indicate tissue health.
What this could mean
Our plain-language read of the trial. This is informational only — not medical advice or a prediction.
What this could lead to
If successful, this could lead to a simple camera tool that helps surgeons better identify healthy and diseased brain tissue during operations.
What could go wrong
This is a small, early feasibility study with only 50 participants. The camera recordings may not be clear enough to reliably guide surgery, and results may not apply to all brain conditions.
